critical mass of stupidity has been achieved!

Think of binary stars and supernovas. These involve physical things. Now imagine two increasing black holes of stupidity becoming binary until the antithesis of of supernova light and energy occurs which is a blackout into non-existence.

This is like watching and listening to a TV screen suddenly goes black and into silence.

Put the increasing stupidity and greed of Tories in UK together with increasing stupidity and ignorance of MAGAS in USA, revolving around each other and we see--actually don’t see as are black holes of stupidity and greed--the total destruction of reason.

The Tories have taken mediocrity to new and astounding heights. Yet about 30% of the electorate actually voted for these nonentities, the rest couldn't be bothered and not a moment too soon.

In the USA, roughly 32% of voters still believe the BIG LIE -- i.e., that Trump actually "won" in 2020. Moreover, *The Los Angeles Times* reported (9 July 2023): << An Economist/YouGov survey last year found that half of American Republicans now believe in core QAnon concepts, such as the assertion that a single group of people “secretly . . . rule the world” and that “top Democrats are involved in elite child sex-trafficking rings.” >> Other polls suggest that as many as 15-20% of the electorate agree with QAnon's positions. ReThuglicans are no longer a political party; they are a cult, led by a deranged egomaniac. Ask the Germans if that sounds familiar...

We’re delightful aren’t we (I’m using the Royal plural of course). We are a mess but reassured that we may not be the biggest asses on the planet (proportionately at least). Fun times. Why we drink.

Wait, I thought they'd moved on from pizzagate and we're now more concerned about the Soros-Swift cabal, and Michelle Obama being President and all the Swifties giving Biden an excuse to force everyone to wear masks for the rest of our lives? Or maybe that was last week, and they're waffling again about which Democrats are the most Satanic.

Sadly, while it's a humorous spoof for you and me, there are people who take such nonsense seriously. I actually spoke with one genius who "freaked" when I told him I had been vaccinated. He admonished that my skin would turn magnetic, I would develop a predilection for pre-pubescent boys, and I would hear a voice in my head telling me that Bill Gates was god!

Here is some humorous USA"s VAERS facts, that won't effect you devout believers!

OVER 1,135,000 COVID VACCINE INJURIES WERE REPORTED TO VAERS, INCLUDING:

• 24,400 deaths

• 27,800 life-threatening events

• 34,500 myocarditis/pericarditis cases

• 40,000 severe allergic reactions

• 44,500 people who are permanently disabled

• 120,00 urgent care visits

• 133,000 hospitalizations

• 176,000 doctor office visits

As of February 18, 2022 — and this is just a small sampling of the startling data we’ve uncovered.

Research shows that this number could actually be only 1% of what the real number is – meaning you can multiply the numbers above by 100 to get a more accurate figure.

The "Big lie" is, is trump didn't win the 2023! When you live in a Godless world ran on B.S. "lies" become truth and truth becomes lies, Good becomes evil and boys becomes girls! Thanks for the demo, Lenny!

It's hard to associate mediocrity with reaching "new heights". More like determinedly flatlining in the middle. Yawn.

It is always a pleasure to read @Laura K's brilliant dissection of the so-called "conservatives" in the UK. I wish someone would do as effective a job describing the mob we have here in the USA.

Seriously, though: it does sound as though your chums in the Tory "leadership" offer the UK rather shitty choices...and, as the old joke asks, with friends like those, who needs enemas?

Daunt means to dishearten or frighten.

Mordaunt in English = (even) MORE daunt.

What could possibly go wrong.

Expand full comment

The "Mor" in Mordaunt always reminds me of French "le mort" and Latin "Mors, mortis" -- death. Mortality.

Expand full comment

I got that too.

Thought I'd keep the comment simple, but put through Goog.trans in Latin mor daunt is something like, 'they give death'. To die in Italian is morire too.

They tell us...

Got this interesting info from Google:

"Nearly all modern dictionaries of surnames suggest the derivation of the name Mordaunt comes from the French verb mordre - to bite, the present participle of which would be biting, or mordant in modern French, possibly refering to the the sarcastic or biting sense of humour of the original."

I've said this before but it bears repeating: The day that NPR, PBS, and various other "liberal media" have Amy Goodman on a panel with the usual panopoly of grifters, goons, and assorted "intellectuals" from the American Enterprise Institute, Cato, the Hoover Institute, and their ilk is the day I'll >consider< that NPR is liberally biased. But not before...

Expand full comment

Yes! Absolutely correct! My earlier point was that NPR, *The New York Times*, and other such media were actually fairly liberal AT ONE TIME, but have drifted toward the center and are not at all "liberally biased." As recently as last year, we heard someone from the RAND Corporation featured on NPR.

Loved it. Laura! '“Stand up and fight,” Penny slurred, only no one did stand up and fight because the audience were all about 106 years old and they have bad knees.'' Too funny!!!

I'M STANDING UP! I'M FIGHTING! I'm going to say it a few time for other people who should stand up and fight because standing up and fighting is the sort of thing people who like to stand and fight do. I'M STANDING UP! I'M FIGHTING!

Actually I'm just sat here in my pants SHOUTING

I can't believe that after, what, 13 years of rule, the Tories still are behaving like they're the ones knocking on the window, railing at "those in power". Maybe if their particular faction isn't PM, then it doesn't count?

Expand full comment

The situation is similar in the USA. The most-watched news station is Faux (aka Fox); the most read newspaper is Right-leaning *USA Today*. So-called "talk radio," even without the diseased Rush Limbaugh, is almost outright fascist. The previously "liberal" media, pressured by their corporate sponsors, have moved to the center. And what do the Right-wingers do? They bleat and wail incessantly about the "liberal" media. WHAT "liberal media"?

I'm still getting the hang of how threading works here, but the message about NPR and Amy Goodman should be a reply to your message, Lenny.

My apologies for the hassle.

No worries. I responded -- and agree with you completely. [I am also a certified techno-moron, so apologies are unnecessary.]

Pleading powerlessness and grievance as a persecuted minority are the new forms of power: poor little Tories. Nothing to do with the last 13 years of government.

This is all such fun! You know what would make it even more fun? Let's throw all the Tories in the UK, and all the Republicans in the US, in a box, and then trade them around. Y'all can have an as-yet-named Republican run for PM, and we can have some Tories vie for our vacated House Speaker chair. It might be amusing. My bet is that none of them will really do any worse than they're doing now, since they're already all as confused as seems humanly possible.

Rishi is peddling the same speeches Adolf Hitler did in 1930’s Germany. Didn’t work well for Hitler, and Sunak’s balding American carrot has a legal noose tightening around his neck yet the two keep holding hands and marching both nations towards global conflict. Both share the same love/hate relationship with Russia that their beloved Adolf did....Big trouble is brewing, sadly tories are too busy searching for unicorn blood to keep their ancient members alive. Too bad Diana isn’t here as Queen to help bring peace and civil decency.

Hey, let's not knock trade deals which boost our GDP by 0.08%. It's all part of the cunning Tory green agenda. We all know that economic growth is bad for the environment, so delivering a Brexit deal that locks us into low growth is good for the planet. Genius, right?
