The only trait of the Trump Administration in which I have confidence is its incompetence.

Vin LoPresti's avatar

Ludicrousness as well, I think. Just the image of a jowl-faced, semi-demented Trump delivering his SOTU, backed by the jocular, clownish Howdy Doody (Mike Johnson) and Clarabell (JD Vance) sticks in my mind like dried peanut butter on a dress shirt. Ludicrosity to the nth power.

Rebel Nun's avatar

It’s the Congresspeople cheering him on that make me sick. They are, for the most part, not demented, so that makes them criminals.

Vin LoPresti's avatar

Oh hell yeah. Jail's the only appropriate legislative chamber I recognize for those folks.

Iraq Syria and Libya all went so well - for Israel.

Anyway, the propaganda is crude, because it doesn't have to be very good. The decision to attack Iran was already made long ago. Now they're just trying to come up with a pretext.

Iran was foolish not to have gotten The Bomb when it could have.

Spunty's avatar

They all went pretty well for US oil traders too.

Feral Finster's avatar

Syrian oil production was a rounding error at most. Syria, however, is parked near Israel.

For that matter, Saddam would have been delighted to sell freely all the oil he could pump for dollars.

TS's avatar

Syrian oil production was significant for the whole region until the Kurds took over the best oil fields. And those would be our military bases right near there. Another gift of the 9/11 wars.

Feral Finster's avatar

IIRC, Syrian oil production was barely enough to meet internal demand.

In 2010, before the war, Syrian oil production was .5% of the global total. Small potatoes, no matter how you slice it.

Frances Lynch's avatar

Did US sanctions contribute to that? Sincere question.

Feral Finster's avatar

It's not as if Syrian oil production started booming once the oilfields were under US control.

Ever since the first War On Iraq, Alt-Media commentators have sought looked for real or imaginary treasure troves of resources as the "hidden" reason for every one of America's wars of aggression. It's a lazy trope.

No, Ukraine is not some stockpile of rate earths waiting to be plundered. No, Afghanistan is not really about a pipeline (it's about the worst land there is to situate a pipeline). No, Gaza is not sitting on some massive untapped gas field.

Yes, Iraq has oil, but Saddam would have been delighted to sell oil freely for dollars on world markets. The US did not allow this. For that matter, something similar could be said about Libya. Yes, Gadhafi did make some noises about an oil-backed dinar, but only after he found himself on the US enemies list. After all, you can buy gold Kreugerands, and yet trade is not flooding to South Africa, nor is the United States seeking to invade.

For that matter, neither Iraqi nor Libyan oil production is anywhere near what it was before they were attacked.

isis exported it to turkey. it's all the little scams that build a billion and nip small hopes in the bud. israel's good at nudging, but they're all so easy.

Feral Finster's avatar

Granted, but still peanuts in the scheme of things.

Brilliant as ever. Laura that is, not Trump, he's a fucking liability. Why doesn't the rest of the world just bomb Israel to smithereens, then America can be free?

Rebel Nun's avatar

That’s why the Zionists have taken over the US and UK governments, among others, and are trying to expand their physical territory all the way to Turkey and Russia and beyond. Bombing “Israel” won’t solve the problem.

HAJL's avatar

Even if Israel is bombed to dust, the jew will persist.

I’m no advocate for nukes, but Iran has just as much right to them as the US … or Israel. The US put itself in this corner when it refused to defend Ukraine from Russia AFTER guaranteeing its defense if Ukraine pulled its nukes out. The US is not a trustworthy partner.

John Wright's avatar

Iran has provocatively placed their country amongst the US Navy Carrier Strike Group, so they are obviously asking for it.

So (sadly) true! In fact, I now understand the GREENLAND has WMDs, to say nothing of Cuba, Mexico, and who knows where else...

Minneapolis! Portland!

I for one am confident that the current talks between the US and Iran will produce results, just like the last time the two nations talked. Those talks resulted in the US bombing Iran, "obliterating" that country's nuclear program. If there's one thing America loves, it's a sequel.

TS's avatar

Sigh. You say well.

“Israel has the Epstein tapes”.

Therefore wouldn’t it be more logical to nuke Israel? 😁

No - that Adelson woman and the demonic Thiel have back-up copies

Thank you, Laura, for being our genius truth-teller in satirical disguise. I need this. 🙏🌟❤️

We don’t teach geography any more in this country, and very little history. In the burgeoning “Christian” schools, they teach a limited and twisted version of both. Millions of Americans can’t find Iraq or Iran on a map (one Country-Western song even brags about not knowing the difference between them), and know nothing about their pivotal role in human history, but they’ll proudly say that their son or daughter is there “protecting our freedom”. And our president probably can’t find the US on a globe; Colbert took him on beautifully, years ago:

Give it another 20 years or so and most Americans might not be able to read at all only gawp at the image on their phone screen. The Colbert clip was very good by the way.

I shouldn't laugh at that headline, but sometimes you have to laugh if the alternative is heavy sobbing.

As always, USA Middle East policy is dictated by the oil companies (or politicians they own) and Israel. The devastation of such wars only affect those being bombed with side effects inflicted on near neighbours and Europe. USA happily half a world away looking apon us all just as they'd watch a movie..... 🙄

Rebel Nun's avatar

It’s true. White Americans are convinced it can’t happen to them.

The funniest part is the confidence. “Trust us, this time the secret evidence is real.” It’s like a magician who already pulled a rabbit out of an empty hat once and now wants applause for pulling another invisible rabbit out of the same hat. If the facilities were “completely obliterated” last year, why are we warming up the jets again? Either they were obliterated or the adjective needs a refund. History has a way of replaying its greatest hits, and somehow the chorus is always “imminent threat.”

You’d think after two decades of sequel wars we’d at least demand better writing.

Rebel Nun's avatar

Three and a half decades since the first bombing of Iraq; seven decades since the CIA overthrow of Iran. And so much in between. All with the same bad writing. The Media just dials up the stupid meter and the people follow.

Sucka G's avatar

Iran having a nuke or not is irrelevant if the ending of the script is already determined.
