As an American, I am way ignorant about British politics (although I’m learning, thanks to Laura), so I had to look up Zack Polanski. I found an article in the Guardian, which I have found to be occasionally almost non-fictional, which mentioned briefly that he had been elected, without using the 84% figure, and then went on and on about how unpopular, unelectable, and unworthy he is, even in his own party. The Establishment is clearly threatened! I love him dearly. And Laura.

Can he really make my boobs bigger? UK here I come!

Shocking aye!!! Did you see Yvette this morning? Semi hysterical to prove the number and different flags she has about the place, I thought she was going to burst into tears under the glare of questioning! Head bobbing up and down. Gosh how did we get to this state in British politics?!

Yeah and the BBC have done their usual hatchet job on Polanski, screeching that horror of horrors, 'What if the Greens and Your Party form an alliance', they could split the anti-Labour vote?

That's what I'm hoping for--an alliance that takes out the Labourites and Tories.

Thatcher followed Reagan's lead, demanding the government be "run like a business," meaning only the most incompetent, sycophantic, corruptible, and malicious can be promoted. Stir forty years. Voila!

Laura, how dare you! You didn't mention that he's a "non-Zionist Jew". I'm not sure what that means except that maybe he is, like me, an anti-Zionist Jew? Or maybe he's not, anti-Zionist that is, just, well non-Zionist. Talking about Zionism is like walking on soft-boiled (Kosher?) eggs. See you on Saturday?

I just can’t keep up with all the role reversal. How are the Tories coping now that the only way they can be the Opposition is to attack policies that are even more fascist than the ones they would have loved to implement but wouldn’t have dared?

I do hope you are right about the death of neo-liberalism, but I'm too scared to say it out loud in case the Min. of Truth has bugged my computer.

As an un-redeemed soul who has found no salvation since I foolishly stormed out of the Labour party. I need a politician to wash away my sins...................

Sorry I must go ........somebody is knocking loudly on my door..............please come and feed my goldfish........................................aaa/4"7%5zzzzrgh

Marvelous news -- and a marvelous article (as usual), @Laura K. It seems you Brits might actually make some progress.

In the US, there is no hope, because we have a "winner takes all" political system that denies ANY representation to people who vote for a "losing" party, even if the "winning" party got less than 50 percent. [The disaster known as Trump 47 or Trump 2.0 got 49.9 percent support at the polls.] The Greens, with 6.7 percent of the vote, have seats in parliament, and a coalition with Corbyn's new party might just... Here's to hope!

Great post and fantastic news. I’m a wee bit tired of all the political news being depressing and maddening and crazy, as all we usually get is along the lines of X has announced that from now on everything is going to be even more awful for ordinary Brit’s than it is already, but the rest of us will be fine.
