Good morning, everyone, I’m sorry to get personal on here with it being a satirical newsletter, but I’ve had to take some time out because my five-month-old baby has been diagnosed with myoclonic seizures.
Hello everyone, I don't like giving updates like this, but since you are all aware of what's taking place, it's only fair I let you know. The outcome of the EEG today was not good and Ezra has been diagnosed with epileptic encephalitus. The outcomes of this can vary depending on the underlying cause, but needless to say, this is not good news. I am sick with worry. We're having another EEG tomorrow and I'm praying it looks better. The worst thing now is the not knowing.
Please, don't worry. Your readers will still be here whenever you feel up to writing again. Now is the time to be with your baby boy and find out what you can do to help him. As a mom who has been in the hospital with her little ones, I know just how stressful it can be, the not knowing. Your attention should be focused on Ezra. No need to apologize for taking time off. God bless you and your family. Love, Cindy
That's reassuring to hear because all I have is Google and all I'm seeing are horror stories. Do you mind me asking, was the child born with this illness and how were they prior to diagnosis? I ask because Ezra was having seizures from birth, but we couldn't get doctors to listen. He is behind on his development and has related issues with acid reflux that I think is related. We're struggling to get any sense out of the doctors.
I know of an excellent doctor who will listen to your concerns and whose approach could prove most helpful to your child. My own son is five, and it was about his health we last spoke. If you send me a direct message I will be happy to share his website and contact information with you.
Laura, they can work miracles these days. I'll prayer for Ezra. Ask your readers to prayer for him as well. When so many people prayer for the same outcome, it usually happens.
The family I knew were from Norway on a visiting academic thing to the US. The baby (who was beautiful) was behind and needed all kinds of therapy but she was catching up- so much so that they were able to take the semester abroad. Obviously you are going to be sick with worry-but you CAN do this!
Oh god I’m so sorry to hear about your little one, I hope you’re coping okay and have people to keep you comfortable and calm. Sending all the love and hopes and prayers I can manage, and I pray their situation improves quickly. ❤️
Hi Laura, My son is an ICU nurse. He gave me a link to a medical paper on the condition. He's going to send me something in “English” that he's happy to share with you. I can send it privately if you wish.
So very sorry to hear this ! I can’t even begin to imagine how difficult this much be for you. May Allah shower Ezra and you with countless health my blessings . Will keep you all in my prayers .
Laura, my absolute sympathy for you and your family. As a parent of a disabled child (now adult), I really understand the absolute turmoil you must both be in right now. My son also had seizures so I can understand your distress. May I recommend you look beyond the NHS? There has been a great leap in the understanding of treatment of these forms of epilepsy with CBD oil - it sounds out there but I really recommend you speak to one of the many legal and professional clinics in the UK? I can recommend Mamedica but there are many others. https://mamedica.co.uk/ Nothing will be prescribed without a proper medical examination by an appropriate specialist. They are worth a listen.
Concentrate on your baby now and worry about the rest another time. The people who follow you are the kind who put people first so no one is going to abandon you or your column because you need time off. Hugs to you and your little one.
Your distraction is entirely understandable and whilst your totally impartial view of the world has been missed, some things are much more important on a personal level. Please be assured of my best wishes x
So sorry to read this!! My nephew was diagnosed with infantile spasms at a similar age, it was quite a battle for his parents to get him the right diagnosis and treatment and he was very unwell for a while, but he is now an extremely robust 6 year old who never stops running around, is doing well at school, and can tell you who scored every Arsenal goal this season and on which foot. Hope your boy has very similar outcomes!
