That so-called compassionate people could be so selective about how to dispense their empathy, tells you that while they are capable of compassion, they are still driven by primitive survival instincts. Once a person is caught up in the grip of fear, there is no reasoning with them. But if you can get a moment of lucidity from such people, recommend to them to read and educate themselves.

If we let Palestinians run their own country, in a few years they’ll be just like South Africa and Ireland - strong, successful, eloquently influential, seriously well-dressed. I am South African, and it is not quite as rosy as you make it. We have a severely high murder rate (some of our cities feature in the top 20 worldwide.) Rampant crime is crippling the infrastructure.

The impression I get is that SA is improving impressively (if not quickly enough for residents) while the US, UK, many other Northern/Western countries, and certainly Israel are going down the toilet.
South Africa is wonderful, and it's people are very patient. It is a beautiful country.
Improvement wise, it hasn't been such a roaring success. Unfortunately crime syndicates infiltrated the country in 1994, making use of the excellent infrastructure back then and the vacuum of law enforcement. Since the police and army were mostly white - during the restructuring to make it mostly black - a lot of highly experienced people were let go. So crime just flourished - I think we are at about 85 murders a day! Many more than were killed by the previous regime.
The other small problem, was that the revered ANC 'forgot' to build power stations in their 30 year tenure. So we were plunged into regular blackouts for years - so no, the economy is being undermined by our very own, very openly corrupt government.
It is a lovely place though, not deserving of the political ideologies practiced upon it's people throughout its history. Like most countries :)
