This is only slightly tangential, but it's actually fascinating to track these people who come from one sort of narrative, then realize that the toxic narrative is, like, WAY more lucrative, and flip the switch. So the question is did they ever belong to either one? Or do they just realize the world is a circus and are playing whatever part comes along? I lean towards the second. I don't think the majority of the circus performers we're watching believe one fraction of whatever story they personally are spewing at us. Marketing has literally taken over the entire world, there is nothing left.

Totally agree. Besides being scum that flows through the path of lease resistance politicians are through and through paid actors/liars.

Elections are just theater. Politicians (federal level) are selected, groomed and then placed. The script they have to follow is written by the international banksters.🎶 🇨🇦 ☮️

basically. Now the question is what do we do with that.

DE-centralize, build self-reliant community below Dunbar's #, grow, sell, buy, LIVE locally, DE-fund the federal government by tax-avoidance, etc.

Best wishes for success !!! 👍👍

Well said! Sharing your opinion completely.

I think it is not possible to consequently and convincing representing and creating a non existing reality, without knowing that all the time.

I do think too that the level of consienceness as well as the will to acknockledge reality differs in every one of us, from (almost?) 0 tot (almost?) 100 procent

Lidija P Nagulov's avatar

for sure, we're different in our perception and comprehension of the world. But the higher up people are in the structures of power, the less I think they believe anything at all, except that they want to go higher still, and stay there forever.

Mig's avatar

I do seriously doubt if they are capable of even wanting something at all.

Beyond personal power, yeah, possibly they’re not.

H.L. Mencken, the bard of Baltimore said, 'No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.'

And another favorite

'American democracy consists of jackals worshiped by jackasses.'

This would indicate that very little has changed in the US in the past 100 years and that Laura has her finger on our detestable political pulse.

Little Nell's avatar

Laura wields her sarcasm like the fiery sword our Lord and savior Jesus H. Christ will wield on judgement day, when he separates those who can recognize sarcasm when they read it, from those who can’t.

Aside from being a world class satirist, Laura is practically perfect in every way, and has taught me all sorts of things I didn’t know about JD Vance because well, I had hoped I wouldn’t have to learn about him. I hoped he would go away.

But, as they same in some special forces commando group or another: Hope is not a plan. And now, it is apparent, we’re all going to learn a whole lot more about JD Vance than we ever wanted to. 🥺

Ohio sincerely apologizes for JD Vance, but is glad to see the back of him at the same time.

Thank you Normal Island News. An outsider’s voice is very powerful for those of us who want to stay relevant on the world stage. Obviously hit a nerve, eh?

"Strangely, his wife looks terrified of blinking."

Sidenote: Fuck her. Women need to stop dating monsters. They are not hard to spot. If women would quit giving sadists babies we'd run out of western sadists in a generation. I'm tired of the endless damsel in distress routine. Sexual selection is power. Yes rape is a thing but it's also a statistically insignificant as a source of babies in the English speaking world, a few sadists would squeak through but not enough to perpetuate if women collectively just stopped drooling over serial killer larvae in uniforms and ties.

P.S. You really wanna help battered spouses? Universal Basic Income. If you can't walk away, you're not free.

Rebel Nun's avatar

Universal Basic Income would help tremendously, but given that we don’t have it, what we need desperately is compassion for these women. We have no idea what it’s like for them, and never will. Nor for any other human. Our only decent option is to suspend judgement.

The Revolution Continues's avatar

Well said, Rebel Nun. Everyone stop blaming victims of domestic violence. It happens. And abusers tend to be duplicitous and manipulating charmers. It's hard to know you're married to an abusive person until it's too late and you're psychologically battered to think it's "all your fault". Abusers know how to hurt people without leaving bruises, too. So, stop blaming the victims. It's one reason they stay with their abuser--no help from society.

Innomen's avatar

I get that in principal, and the worst my rage would ever actually amount to even with power would be a low security finnish prison cell. But still, in general, women need some of the blame for choosing comfort over ethics when it's an actual choice. Greed doesn't just exist in the monetary sense.

I've never even heard of a man being dumped for being evil to outsiders. It's always for affronts directly/indirectly to the spouse/mate. Certainly it's not a cultural trope. It's easier to get dumped for leaving the seat up in popular culture than it is for being a prison guard for instance. Think about that. From a dating perspective a bathroom faux pas is a graver sin than actually overseeing literal slaves.

It's worthy of real discussion.

Trump has found his Mini Me. If Vance starts following Trump around in a blue suit and a red tie that would be too creepy.

Suzanne's avatar

Didn’t you watch the trial? They all dressed alike outside the courtroom.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

That's where I got the idea.

I noticed that while his ear was bare earlier, at the convention Trump was wearing what appeared to be a teabag over his right ear. His wife Melancholia couldn't attend, but she sent that as an old folk remedy to help with the healing. He was supposed to soak it first before applying but decided that the pure white looked better.

Look for Teabag of Valor to start trending online.

it seems Trump has picked a genuine nutcase as his VP. What does this tell us about the mental health of the USA's ruling class? Have they truly lost the plot? Dangerous lunatics with their fingers on the nuclear button. Be afraid, really afraid.

Camille Sheppard's avatar

Yes. They've truly lost the plot. It's a f'ing nightmare.

The point is, it's always been a fake, the difference now is that the cracks are showing, the veneer is peeling off, the entire thing is built on a lie.

It is strange, although significant, that to insult the opponent they use Hitler and not Stalin. Deep down, all these US billionaires admire the German and are so terrified of the Soviet that they prefer not to even mention him.

NumberVI's avatar

Think that should have been “Man of Steal” at the top.😎

Bels's avatar

I imagine it is a compliment both to trump and also to Hitler I imagine... who was it that quoted Hitlers speech word for word... was it Bush jr... I think it was... I wish I had a copy of the daily calendar of stupid quotes that was for sale here in Australia one of the years he was president in USA... I think it was a running thing for a few years... and no quotes were even used twice... I must look it up and see if I can find one ...

Bels's avatar

And here is a recent one... I don’t normally share Guardian articles since they helped setup Julian Assange... but anyway... here is a recent take on Trump/Hitler ... I think their references to him are meant as compliments to each other while seeming as an insult to public...as that’s what the public would think it is meaning... when it’s never an insult in their reality... they idolise people who gain control and power... they all drool over Hitlers propaganda techniques and the USA took the Nazis and formed CIA with them after WW2

Anyway... the article https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/jun/03/donald-trump-hitler-similarities

So now we have two self-serving, ignoramuses, who are not only simple-minded self-aggrandising and arrogant but mean-spirited, anything goes, charlatans who are apparently completely lacking in principle.

As if that weren't bad enough, probably somewhere in the region of 50 million USA voters seem to support their abhorrent views and deceitful rhetoric. If, indeed, they are elected one can only shudder at the potential consequences for not only the USA but the World.

If they are elected, after November for right-minded, compassionate and fair minded people, as the song says: "nowhere to run to, no where to hide."

Of course, no satire here, just what I believe to be the facts ...

...

Thank you, Laura K. for your continued articulate exposure of the parlous state of politics and political 'representation'. I applaud your ability to not only highlight with amazing clarity the contradictions, deceit, irrationality and perfidy that colours politics on both sides of the Atlantic but your ability to provide some relief from its debilitating effect with well honed humour.

Take care. Stay safe. ☮️

p.s. Take care - whistle-blowing, on or off the field, quite easily brings the wrath of the ignorant down upon you. (Did I mention anyone named Julian?)

Trump famously does not care for facial hair, however his new veep has a beard beard and a neck beard. Obviously Trump is allowing this because one of his staff showed him pictures of JD from 2016/17. You see, JimDave is a moon-faced pud and the beards camouflage this unfortunate fact a bit. Also, a network makeup artist told him that eyeliner brings out the blue of his eyes. Behold the result.

Also too, his bestselling book can be summed up easily: hillbillies are poor and dying of opioid overdoses and it's their own fault. Sad.
